I'll admit it, I tend to be a bit of a homebody. Between sessions, editing, and planning for clients, I don't always make it out to explore as much as I'd like. One of my goals heading into the holidays is to slow down and be more intentional about shopping small, exploring our local gems, and supporting the incredible entrepreneurs here in Pittsburg + Joplin. So whether you're grabbing a coffee, picking up a gift, or treating yourself, here are a few of the amazing local spots on my radar (why they should be on yours too!).

Why shopping small matters

When you support a local business, you're not just making a transaction, you're building a connection. These owners live here, work here, and invest in our community. They care about relationships, not just sales. As a local photographer, this matters. The same intentionality I bring to capturing your story is mirrored in the way these shops show up for our region. Supporting them helps our economy, strengthens our community, and makes this area even more special.

Supporting local doesn't have to be hard

You don't have to buy something every day to make a difference. You can also help small businesses by:

  • Sharing their posts to your story.
  • Leaving them a glowing review on socials + google.
  • Telling a friend about them.
  • Tagging them in your posts when visiting their businesses.

I'm so thankful for this community of creatives, makers, and business owners who make Southeast Kansas + Southwest Missouri such a special place to call home. Let's shop local, show up for small business and entrepreneurs this holiday season, and keep each others dreams alive!
